In the summer of 1991, a small group of individuals conceived and then formed a plan to start a community theatre in the Cold Spring Area. Their first endeavor was to perform a variety show with performers from the area and dedicate the Rocori High School Auditorium to long time arts supporter and Cold Spring resident, Glanville Smith. After the success of that show, a board of directors was chosen to form what is now The Great Northern Theatre Company.
Our Board of Directors has strived to not only us keep moving forward but also to continue to look at the needs of the community and bring you the best, positive theatre experience.  Our GNTC mission is to foster, encourage and develop an appreciation of theater by enriching the lives of people in Central Minnesota with the power of live theatre.  Our goal is to create opportunities for children and adults to develop their talents in theatre but also to connect with each other and our audience with excellence, stewardship and fiscal integrity.
This year we were faced with a challenge that no one could have anticipated.  Because of Covid-19, the safety of our participants and our audience was at the forefront and we were forced to cancel the shows we had planned to produce.  It’s still hard to conceive that we would just be finishing up our big summer production right now.
At this point, none of us know what the future of live theatre will be.  We are trying to move forward with plans for our 2021 winter and summer shows but that will all be determined by the health of our community and state requirements.
Not knowing what our future holds economically is something that we have to face.  Even though we do not have paid staff members, we have monthly expenses that need to be paid. We rent a wonderful facility that houses the items that are needed for productions and provides rehearsal space. We also have many administrative expenses like insurance, media, phones, organization fees, etc. To help defray these costs, we are tapping into as many funding opportunities as possible.
We are also holding a raffle. This will give you an opportunity to win a prize as well as contribute to our cause.
Please contact GNTC board members and members at large to purchase a $10.00 raffle ticket.  The drawing for the winners will be held on Friday, November 20th at 7:00pm at Shady's Longshots at the Rich Spring Golf Course.  You do not need to be present to win.
GNTC would like to thank everyone who has attended our performances, participated in them, volunteered your time and resources, or supported us financially. We love being a part of the surrounding communities and have enjoyed bringing the magic of theatre to you. We look forward to continuing that relationship, however that may look.

Stay Well,
Vicki Meyer, President GNTC
