Welcome to the Great Northern Theatre Company auditions. Please take time to familiarize yourself with some information about our process.
Please use the link below to fill out an audition form before auditions. If you can’t, we will have audition forms at auditions, but please arrive by 6:15 p.m. to fill out the form ahead of time.
Our Vocal Director will work with everyone to teach the selected musical number we have provided.
We will call up groups of people at one time. Everyone will have the opportunity to sing alone or in a group. We would love to hear everyone sing alone but we will give the group option.
If children are unable to read, we will have them sing Happy Birthday or a song they are comfortable singing.
A dance video has been provided for you to review prior to auditions. Our choreographer will also go through this dance the night of auditions and we will ask people to dance in groups.
Have fun and don’t worry if you don’t have dance experience. We work with people of all abilities.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when auditioning:
Your audition begins when you first arrive and does not end until you leave the building. We’re looking to put together a team of actors who will work together well. How you act matters as much as how well you act.
Dress appropriately. Keep your hair out of your face and hands out of pockets. Wear rubber soled shoes you can move in.
When it's your turn to audition: Introduce yourself. Project! Articulate! Have a positive attitude! Have fun!
Don't say you can't do something. Try it. Directors want casts who are willing to take chances.
After the audition: Think about what you have learned. Then forget about "how you did". So many factors affect casting that it is a waste of time to worry about it. Feel good about yourself. There are MANY people that would not have the courage to audition - and you did! Come back and try again if you don't get cast this time!
A quality production comes from hard work and commitment on the part of everyone in the cast and crew. If members of the cast or crew are missing on days we didn’t expect, it creates confusions and is not fair to other members. For this reason, we ask you to consider the following information:
Please think through conflicts with the rehearsals and performances before you audition. Think about work, summer sport events, and family vacations so that these important conflicts are honestly recorded on your audition form. We cast based on conflicts you are honest about, and if NEW conflicts arise, you MAY be re-cast.
